Microsoft Unveils Overhaul of SharePoint
In an earlier post, we talked about the
possibility of new features in SharePoint. Those possibilities became reality in early May when
Microsoft broke the exciting news about its dramatic makeover of SharePoint.
The software giant is transforming the popular program into a mobile-friendly team collaboration powerhouse.
Added to SharePoint will be Windows 10 Mobile, iOS and Android apps. The Android apps should be available at the end of June; the others will be incorporated later in the year.
Redesigned Interface
SharePoint users who were turned off by its interface will be happy to know that Microsoft has radically redesigned the whole thing. With the new interface, users should be able to more easily see files being worked on by other people.
There’s also a new search feature that will allow you to scan for files stored both on the cloud and in on-site versions of SharePoint.
Other SharePoint Add-ons
Additional updates to SharePoint – which should be added later in the year – include:
- Document analytics in OneDrive
- Integration of Office 365 Groups and SharePoint
- Access to SharePoint Online document libraries in OneDrive mobile apps
