Microsoft’s SharePoint 2010 To Move To Extended Support
With the advent of Windows 10 and Microsoft 2013 SharePoint program versions, the 2010 version of the popular software will be moving to Extended Support, a sign that the program will eventually be phased out by 2020.  For those still using the 2010 version, there have been some concerns that Microsoft has been anxious to put to rest.

Who Is Using SharePoint 2010?

A recent report by the Association of Information and Image Management found that about 42 percent of its members were using SharePoint 2010, while about 30 percent were using SharePoint 2003 or 2007 for legacy content.  Given Microsoft's five-year product cycles, it was only a matter of time before 2010 became a program of the past.  Microsoft gives full Mainstream Support to its newly-released products, including the ability for users to request design changes, to run security and other updates and receive complimentary support.  When the product moves into Extended Support, security updates are no longer issued, and the company charges for all support calls related to the software.  Charging for support calls is one of the most important aspects that differentiates Extended Support from Mainstream Support, and is one of the most significant issues facing SharePoint 2010 users. Currently, SharePoint users are governed by the following "support" calendar:
Product Start Date Mainstream Support End Date Extended Support End Date
Access Services in SharePoint 2010 7/15/2010 10/13/2015 10/13/2020
