Many people have been wondering how Microsoft plans on rolling out their newest operating system, Windows 10, to the masses. Now, the testers and customers who have been wondering when Microsoft would announce how the highly anticipated OS would finally be sent out have their answer through a recent blog post.
The first part of Microsoft’s announcement was regarding its increase in the number of Windows Insiders since May, jumping from 3.7 million to 5 million. The company also informed us that it has received millions of Windows 10 reservations from consumers and large-scale customers. It also announced Windows 10 is going to be offered to users of Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 as a free upgrade.
Windows 10 testers are especially in luck, as it was announced that Windows Insiders will be receiving Windows 10 starting July 29. According to Terry Myerson, the OS will be rolled out systematically starting on that day, and from then on the company will be sending out notifications to reserved systems in multiple waves. Each wave will scale up after the initial roll-out date. Myerson made it a point to mention that they will be listening and learning from users as they roll-out the code, updating the experience for all users as they go. He went on to say that volume license users will be able to scoop up Windows 10 starting August 1st.
OEM partners of Microsoft will be receiving Windows 10 soon, as well, mostly because they will be imaging new devices with the code. Soon after that, retailers around the world will receive their own build of Windows 10. This will allow them to help their customers upgrade their newly purchased devices, most of which will have been imaged with Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. The company also stressed how hard it is working to ensure all systems will be able to upgrade. It also said they will make sure users whose setup does not yet support Windows 10 will not be moved to Windows 10 until their setup is ready.
