Talking About Updates to SharePoint From a Business’s Point of View
There’s lots of information online about SharePoint 2016. Unfortunately, most of the info is geared towards IT pros about the deployment and management of the program. We’re going to fix that in this blog by sharing tips to business owners so that they too can get excited about SharePoint 2016.
- Usability gets significant upgrade.
Let’s face it: usability is most often the determining factor in whether a product is successful. With SharePoint 2016, the global navigation experience has been greatly enhanced with the introduction of App Launcher.
Office 365 users are most likely already familiar with App Launcher. But for the uninitiated, App Launcher is essentially an interface that provides you with quick access to OneDrive for Business and others.
In addition to being able to navigate between the cloud and on-site locales, you’ll even be able to add your own sites for quick access.
- We got a bigger boat.
With SharePoint 2016, the maximum 2GB file size limit has been greatly increased to 10GB. You’ll also have greater freedom over naming your files as the restrictions preventing the &, % and # symbols have been lifted.
- Sharing is easier.
Microsoft made improvements to the way we share files through SharePoint as well. You can now create and share folders, quickly see with whom the folder is shared, and grant or deny requests for access with a simple click.
- Search in more places at the same time.
For just about any document management system, the “search” function is a pretty big deal. Microsoft has unified the search capability, meaning that searches from you will return results from the SharePoint online and on-site versions.
