Windows 10 Mobile To Launch In The Fall
The highly anticipated Windows 10 Mobile, the replacement to the current Windows Phone platform, has been rumored to be ready for launch this fall. More specifically, the platform is said to be ready for release sometime near the end of September. The release date for Windows 10 for PCs has already been announced as July 29, but Microsoft has not revealed an exact date for the launch its mobile and tablet platform. Microsoft has also announced a number of major upgrades to their Windows 10 Mobile platform, including general UI updates and:
  • Upgrades to camera app – The main upgrade to Microsoft 10 Mobile’s camera app is the app’s ability to organize images in a tidier way. The app will now list pictures under the month and year they were originally taken, allowing users to easily jump to pictures taken recently and months ago.
  • Cortana is smarter – Cortana, Microsoft’s personal assistant for the Windows phone, has received an IQ upgrade which allows for tracking packages you are going to receive and presenting you with flight information. The majority of this information is through emails that must come from a “supported provider,” but Microsoft has not yet released who these providers are.
  • One-handed management – Using your phone one-handed will be a little bit easier, specifically regarding resizing the phone’s screen size. You will have the option to hold the star button down, then use your thumb to shrink the screen size to something that may be more manageable, while using only one hand. Tapping on the top of the screen will easily return it back to normal size.
Windows 10 will be available for free to users of the current Windows operating systems, including Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. That means if you are running a laptop or PC with one of these operating systems, you will be able to get a free upgrade to Windows 10 within the first year of its launch.
