When an update is made to a product in the form of a service pack, it usually consists mostly of bug fixes. Microsoft went the other way, though, when it released its Feature Pack 1 for SharePoint Server 2016 in November. Rather than a bunch of fixes, Microsoft added a bunch of goodies that are especially helpful for small businesses.

What’s new in Feature Pack 1 for SharePoint Serer 2016?

There are a host of new features for administrators and end-user customers alike.

1. Administrative actions logging For multiple administrator set-ups, this feature logs the administrative actions that are made through the Central Administration website or through the Management Shell layers of SharePoint.
2. OneDrive for Business modern experience The navigation, look, and feel of One-Drive has been given a serious upgrade. With a simple drag-and-drop feature, it’s now much easier for you to keep your files organized. Also, familiar keyboard shortcuts and right-click options make it easier for you to work faster.
3. Custom tiles Through the App Launcher, you can start SharePoint and Office 365 projects. You can also add your own custom tiles that will lead to other SharePoint sites, legacy apps, and external sites.
4. Previews of SharePoint Hybrid Auditing and Hybrid Taxonomy With their Feature Pack 1 for SharePoint, Microsoft is including sneak peeks at two cool additional programs. With SharePoint Hybrid Auditing, audit logs from your on-site SharePoint 2016 can be uploaded to Office 365 for consolidated auditing and reporting.

With Hybrid taxonomy, you can manage Terms, Term Sets, and Groups through a single metadata service.
